Due to popular request back in R&D stage, we provided the holes for cables to be installed, but we don't use them when we install the trays here at our shop. Since the tray increases ground clearance and sits higher up than the felt panels, the cables are too long once installed and have to be bunched up.
The original felt panels "balloon" at high speed as engine bay pressures increase. The cables prevent the original panels from blowing down and tearing at those pressures. Since our tray is rigid aluminum (and due to the way it mounts) those cables no longer serve a purpose and can be omitted if preferred.
