I know some of it may be priorities. I would never buy a new M3, for instance, if I didn't have a proper garage to keep it in, which means that I would have to have a decent house first.

Yes, even out of tier 2 universities. Someone from an ivy working in finance should be making in the 6 figures especially after a year or 2.

Even if someone is making low 6 figures right out of college, the cost of living in California is so high I'm not sure if an M3 is really "responsible" or easily affordable.
