BMW do this with all new models. There are several stages each model travels through from design to a testing development prototype. This stage determines that everything comes together and is a process that occurs with every new BMW, MINI and Rolls-Royce , A car is milled from a block of aluminium in the same way a design model is milled from a block of clay or polystyrene. Just the basic outline is created for this purpose, specific detail is not necessary as it mainly focuses on the internal and external applications for the production car.

In a way this can be referred to as “Time Travel” because you step into another world of BMW , the BMW of the future because these models are post 2013/14. New cars which you have seen launched such as the 6er Coupe where created in the same way but a couple of years ago.

The car you see being worked on but cleverly disguised for the viewer is something which is a couple of years away from production. The clue to the model is “Spartanburg” Hence why engineers are learning about the car for creating the production methods needed to build it.
