I docn't know what they do in California if you get caught....impound the car and force you to remove it?

As for going through the firewall, it looked pretty tight, especially with the telephone type plug ends. I suppose you could cut the plug ends off and then pass it through some hole, assuming you could find one. My goal was to not disturb the stuff under the dash or to remove any dash panels. I envisioned if I it that way, I'd end up with creaks and rattles and never be happy with the installation. I am happy with the installation and could remove the entire system in 30 minutes, with the hardest part being removing the front kidney grills, and leaving no holes in the dash or extra wires to the fuse box.
