I got the rear bushing in and out the same way: jamming a large flat head screwdriver into one of the slots on the side of the bushing and twisting the screwdriver which compressed the bushing casing enough to get it off (or onto) the slots it hooks onto. Make sure the shift carrier is in the rear bushing when you install the rear bushing; you can't get the carrier in if you install the bushing by itself first.
If you've got the shift carrier out, you must've gotten the OEM rear bushing out so I'm assuming you did something similar. It's not easy. It takes a long time and a lot of cursing.
