I'm in the northwest Plano/Frisco area, pretty comfy out here. Lots to do, good schools, rapid growth, close to both airports (I travel a lot for work). It's way less dense up here and there are still ranches scattered around which I kinda like after having lived in downtown Chicago for a decade.
$300-350k gets you a pretty decent house in Frisco. For $500k you'll be living well. I'm planning to buy something within the next year or two and also need a 3 car garage: one spot for the Corvette, one for a truck/daily driver, and one open spot for a future Mrs. to put her car.
Oh, and obviously Texas has no state income tax so you'll basically get a free raise if you move out here. The way I see it, that covered all of my moving costs and now it's just paying for my HPDE stuff. :-)
