Great thread. The conclusion is simple it really costs a lot (small fortune) to save even the weight of a passenger (~150 lb) which is about the threshold of what you can feel in a car at 3700lb and 400 hp.

Note: A slightly OT but interesting point: M-DCT is good for about the equivalent of 20hp at just about 9lb/hp and $2700 (not including tax) that works out to be $15/lb. By far one of the best bangs for the buck. Of course this is for acceleration (linear) concerns only, the extra weight of M-DCT does not help handling but is very central and likely not discernable in the real world.

+1 on enigmas point - always the pragmatist even though a track fiend - don't mod to the point of making your car no good for a DD (unless you don't DD it).
