Hi. It's always sad to leave NAPA!
On that particular trip, I had three different cameras with me. Most were shot with either a Canon 5D2 or 1D4, but a couple were taken with my little Fuji X100. There is no particular trick to making them crisp, most of my shots on the road are taken in Aperture priority mode, ISO 400 or below. For the car pics, I like to keep it aperture at f5.6 or below usually, to try to make the car pop out a bit. For landscapes, maybe f8 or so. I also tend to use -1/3 ec to make sure I don't blow out any highlights. All are shot in RAW format, so there is more room to tweak them in post (I use Lightroom).
I have since acquired a Sony NEX-6 which is turning out to be a great little camera, that I am very impressed with. You can see the results of that camera from my Mount Lassen trip here :
