Had to read that a few times to fully visualise what you put into words! Pretty sure I know what you mean and the answer is yes I did consider it, but more of the limiting factor (albeit a silly one) was me wanting to maintain stock M3 mirror glass. There is a tiny bit more room before hitting the mirror chassis/motor but not much at all.

I planned on doing another design after this with a custom, narrower mirror glass, chopping the top of the mirror down about an inch, the limiting factor would then be the mirror motor, the mirror chassis would need a chop and the mirror motor would have to be adapted somehow...
