I've been trying to research before I buy a bit, but this is a bit over my head! Can you explain a bit more background on why you wouldn't need to hook up to the iDrive harness?

This box is generic and designed to accommodate a lot of variations of the CIC and probably other systems on other E/F chassis cars. In our case the same signals come from the CAN connector, since the IDrive knob is still hooked up normally.
