Thanks. Shops I have talked to all have heebeejeebeez around the ball bearings... They say they have tried and failed. Everything was fine in the shop but the diffs start to make noise after a bit of driving in the car.
I will continue to do some more research before I attempt to deal with the pinion. The shop that is going to help press on the bearings for my simple carrier swap seems to have a clue, so I will have a good conversation with him and see if he seems confident.
