installing and setting up ball bearings is very demanding. you not only need to set to a certain preload value but need special tools and a lot of experience with that stuff, otherwise it will not last long.
i would definitely recommend to have it done at a shop that does this regularly and has done it +20 times in the past already. really no diy or nothing i would have done at a shop that is afraid of doing it! but at least they are honest!
even the official bmw motorsport gt4 documentation says you need "advanced specialist knowledge" and therefore does not explain it any further.

Thank you for the reply. I am trying to find a shop that knows what they are doing but they are all very hesitant to deal with ball bearing pinions. Rightly so I suppose.
For now, I am going to use the ZF carrier with my existing ring and pinion so that I do not have to address the pinion bearings. In the future, I may look into another diff with 4.10 gears. At that time, I may just buy a complete diff from a pro such as yourself and save the headache.
In the meantime, I will see if it is worth rebuilding my GKN carrier assembly to remove the slop and restore its performance in case I want to use it again.
Thanks again!
Cheers,
