The SmartyCam receives the data from another AIM device like a Solo or an AIM dash and then overlays it in real-time while recording the video. So when you pull the SD card out of the camera and watch the video, the day is already overlaid on there. If you’re looking for convenience in data overlay onto video, the Smarty Cam is tough to beat.
The “look” of the SmartyCam gauges is very identifiable. And up until now, you can’t really customize the look much. You can move things around, but the gauges are basically a set look. So if you want a custom look on your video, the SmartyCam cannot give you that.
