anyone that quotes you $1500 additional for install is a rip off. I had one installed on my e92, and the dealer specifically said that installation was included in the price, and further more, the dealer also said that Escort prohibits installers from marking up installation prices. So, the price is essentially set by Escort for both the unit and installation.

Now, going above and beyond the basic full installation very well may be reason to up the installation price, such as custom panels and plexi as previously mentioned. But then again, my installation wasn't exactly basic either and I still didn't get additional installation charges. The GPS antenna was placed inside the breather hole in the hood on the passenger side (the one that isn't an intake for the engine of course), both the display and button panel were flush mounted below the CD player, and I believe custom brackets were made for the front radar antenna and laser shifters. They also flush mounted the speaker and USB port under the dash/steering wheel. At the time I bought the unit, it was about $1800-1900.

So, if all you asked for was basic installation, tell them to kiss it and go find somewhere else.
