Over thinking it bro...

There are much more important things that will make this engine last longer than at which RPM you shift. This is an M3, it was meant to be beat on and driven hard.

Shifting at different RPM will help you attain better fuel economy, but I don't see it having any correlation with engine life so long as the car is maintained well. Someone correct me if I am wrong.
