Anyway, that's definitely an F30, and it's probably an aftermarket bumper.
The guy was just taunting you because he has a "next generation" car and, since the next generation M3 is not available yet, you are "stuck" with the E9x. He probably never even owned an E9x M3. Just ignore him. I'm sure it is a nice car he has, but it is no F80 M3.
