Thermostat Replacement cost

I just moved to a new town and took my '11 BMW M3 to an indy shop nearby because I was getting an "Increased Emissions" readout and the SES light popped on. They ran a diagnostic, and got a "2B59 Coolant Thermostat Monitoring" code back. The shop suggested I replace the thermostat and I agree, but the pricing they quoted me for has me concerned. They want $1238 for the whole replacement (which includes the diagnostic). This is literally the highest I've ever read of this repair being. I will be doing some of my own maintenance once I get more settled into my new place, but I just wanted to know if this strikes you all as a red flag about this shop as whole?
