I have a Subaru 3100 powerwasher from Powerstroke, bought it from Costco. Use the recommended head and stand far back from the car. I use to do a quick rinse off the car, then foam gun + rinse. Then the usual scrub with lamb wool, final rinse and power air dry.
Follow these steps and you'll never have issues. I've been doing this for the past 12 years with my E90 3 series and the paint/clear has never had an issue.
