APO will definitely help simplify that.
If you need best ice and snow traction, go with the Blizzak WS80. If you want something sportier handling and don't need the absolute maximum traction for bad weather, then choose one of the performance winter options.
Bridgestone (LM32), Michelin (PA3/PA4), Dunlop (3D/4D), and Pirelli (Sottozero Serie II/ Sottozero 3) all have good offerings in this category. At the top of this thread I have some more detail about these, but at this point it's hard to go wrong, and a lot of it comes down to driver preference. Sometimes it comes down to what's in stock or a good price.
235/40R18 is what BMW puts on the winter package, but 245/40R18 works well too.
