Mainly privacy/information control; you can do a closed group/secret group on FB and public can't access. Why? for ex. drive routes, meeting spots/times, other car related shenanigans etc...
Also it is easier to manage threads on FB than forum and most check FB more often than forum.
Obviously not everyone use FB...so it isn't perfect
