There was never going to be a V12 powered X7. No V12 8 Series either. So, it is not a surprise if the M760i is indeed in its twilight as well. If you read recent comments from Mercedes and Audi decision makers, you’ll see the writing is on the wall for their V12/W12 engines too.

The 12 cylinder engine will remain for Rolls Royce, Bentley, and presumably Maybach branded Mercedes vehicles. For now at least. And it will probably be outlived in those brands by Ferrari, Lamborghini, Aston Martin, and a few boutique brands like Pagani. Those latter two source their engines from Mercedes, by the way, so the three pointed star may be one of the last manufacturers to see a V12 engine come out of its factories, probably sometime between 2020 and 2030.
