There are some people who changed to 0W40 after several years of 10W60 on original bearings, and later changed bearings and found the bearings had significant wear. But 0W40 cannot reverse wear from 10W60. You would need people who used 0W40 with original bearings from new.

Some of us have run 0W40 since changing bearings with original or wpc treated bmw bearings, but we have not changed them again so we don’t know how they look. The only example I read of is from jcolley who had to re-rebuild an S85 or two that failed again after changing to wpc treated stock and/or thinner oil.

When people start changing bearings for a second time, we will know more.

With this latest example of BE bearing after 50km, we don’t know whether the 0W40 or reduced clearance is what helped it look great. Could be some of both. It might also be proof that 0W40 works fine in these motors.
