Unfortunately, it doesn't.

I have 2 WD passport drives (160 gig and 250 gig) and neither of them work. I have also tried a friend's Maxtor drive ... and again no go. These were all 5400rpm drives. It seems from the trials of the E90 owners that slower drives (4200 rpm) are more likely to work, but these are not easy to find.
