If you want the heat and IR blocking capabilities without the dark color, look at stuff like 3M Crystalline. It's available in transmission percentages like 70 -- I have it on my car and you can't even tell it's tinted (very faint light blue color), but it blocks almost as much heat/IR as a 30% film.
