Always was manual driver, except when it came to the family SUV like our X5, I even had a manual 535i, not many of those around in the US.
First time I looked at the M3 it had a DCT and I really enjoyed it. I found this transmission to be a perfect match for the M3.
For my next car, if it has an equivalent of DCT I might go with that. Otherwise I'll most likely go back to manual. I'm not religious about it and like to think for myself. I also don't have the need to drive a manual to prove anything to anyone.
Lastly, I don't see the DCT as an automatic in the traditional sense. I never leave the DCT in auto mode and always shift manually, so I don't feel any lack of involvement with the car.
