I felt like this is the case that McLaren is listening too much to the telemetry and "mission control" back in Woking thousands miles away.

I suppose when they plan out the race strategies, Plan A will give them a total race time of 1:41:32.525 (random number) with two pitstops (Option, Prime, Prime); Plan B will have a total race time of 1:42:02.325 (random) with three pitstops (Option, Prime, Option, Prime).

When Button completed his first stop, his pace missed the target for Plan A total time, thus the strategy calls for Plan B.

However, they forgot the racing scenario where he was effectively holding up Vettel and ruining his race. Also they forgot with a short and narrow track, they will put Button stuck in traffic.

Thus I said today they rely on number and telemetry too much rather than racing instinct. That's something they can learn, especially in tracks like Monaco and Hungary, and even Singapore.
