My Uncle has had a similar problem. When my Uncle went to get a loan he had the following issues. He had credit, but no real HISTORY of credit for years. His house (worth over 1 million) had been paid off for a long time. He never uses credit cards. All the cars he has bought in the past 15 years have been in cash (buys cheap American cars). He really hasnt had to pay a bill for years (besides gas, electric etc). He hasnt shown a history of credit for a while now. So it was very tough for him to get a loan even though he has ZERO debt.
