So, it seems fair to assume that Subaru won't be turbocharging the BRZ because they don't want to!


Then we have Autoexpress' own interpretation without any 'official' quotes:

Subaru don't use FMICs, they NORMALLY use TMICs with their characteristic hood scoop instead, so why would they care about the space at the front of the engine for an intercooler?! Additionally, the picture you've just posted shows a supercharged Toyobaru with a FMIC. Nice sound BTW:

Well, compared to turbocharging the supercharged 2010 Audi S4 3.0 TFSI (quattro AWD) tells us otherwise. We can compare my BMW 1M twin-turbo to the supercharged Audi S4 (6-speed manual):

Ok, my 1M managed an average of 14 MPG for a complete gas tank as its best with the help of the cruise control (set to 112mph) and the M button OFF only in highways!

Both engines deliver practically the same power output from a 3.0L 6-cylinder engine and despite the Audi's weight disadvantage (485 lbs.), the additional friction losses of the AWD system and a significantly shorter final drive ratio it manages to achieve the same fuel mileage as the 1M!!!
