The ///M leather/cloth has always been the no-cost standard seating surface (...
it was more like a mesh material, and only covered the center-most portions of the seat; leather wrapped the upper/lower bolsters, headrest, etc.). Leather was, and has been, the option.

It didn't in my case. People said the same thing about PY/IR, but it just so happened that the car received more praise than distaste.
And FYI....leather absorbs odor too; just as much, if not more than, cloth.
