Let’s file this one under: I’m dumb. And stubborn!
Made a last minute purchase today that honestly has me flabbergasted. I thought that [relatively] inexpensive significant weight loss was over for me on this car. However, it turns out I was wrong!
I was always under the impression that putting blanks in place of the headlights only saved 15 lbs........WRONG!!! Turns out it’s around 40lbs!!
I was on the Bimmerworld website and it said a 40lbs loss. I was like, wuuut....no way.
So, I called them. The guy was very nice. He said he wasn’t too busy and had time to weigh the pieces. He said they had a stock headlight assembly. He calls me back saying the headlight assembly is 15.5lbs. The three electronic modules associated with the headlights combine to about 4lbs. So that’s around 20lbs per side. The carbon blanks are 0.6 lbs each. Yup, that’s around 40lbs straight off the nose of the car!
So......yeah.......I bought them. They’ll be installed on Friday right before the Chin event. The guy transporting the cars is a full race tech so he can easily do it.
This will make the car somewhere between 3070-3080lbs (no fuel no driver). Can’t wait to feel that!!
So many people have been telling me to do this mod. Turns out, you were right!! Sorry I’m stubborn.
