The cost of maintainence for any newer Porsche is going to be higher especially for the first 4 years as BMW pays for all of the maintainence. After the 4yr. maintainence plan is up the PCar is still going to be more to maintain as the cost of rear tires for 305/30/19s that are going to need to be replaced every 8-10k miles not to mention the cost of inspections. I wouldn't say its a whole level higher but it is more expensive. I normally lease my vehicles and got spoiled with BMWs maintainence plans and I never owned beyond the lease period so beyond this I couldn't say.

Is there a reason you are looking at a 9974(S)? Also, unless you get a newer 997.2 4 (S) they don't have locking diffys its all done through electronics.

Porsches are very reliable cars though, I found them to be pretty much bulletproof.
