i think there is a way you can contest it.
For example:
for my m5 i paid approx 1700 for a car i bought for 54999.
that said, if my property tax is higher than 1700, i will contest it because
i qualify for "tax relief" which is 20k off the assessed value of the car, then divide by 100, then times 4.75.
This is all on the DMV and/or state website.
