The trans issues on the GT-R are overblown.....yeah, Nissan should have never programmed the initial launch control in the vehicle....show me any transmission that can handle repeated dropping of the clutch at revs, with the turbo's spooled, on an AWD car with very sticky tires.....something bad is eventually going to happen. Nissan stepped up (albeit prompted by a lawsuit) and fixed the problem. Yeah, the brakes are pricey, in 2009 they wanted all rotors and pads changed at the same time, now, they have lessened up on that, only requiring that the rotors be checked....also, the aftermarket has really taken care of that, about 1/2 price now for good rotors/pads. Trans service...well, about $100/litre of fluid + labour, you can get aftermarket fluid for about $25/litre, but it may affect the warranty....but its not something that needs to be done all the time. I just sold my 2008 M3, full header back Dinan Exhaust, stage 2 dinan flash, stage 1 dinan suspension...I loved that car, I really did. Just so smooth, and the intoxicating noise at 8K rpm, but one drive in the GTR and I was hooked. Very docile when you want it to be, and a freaking monster when you get on it. I looked around a bought a low mileage 2009 GTR....I couldnt be happier with my decision....
They are both great cars, and I will miss the M3, but I'm sure the GTR will fill that void pretty quick.
The GTR's are consistently dynoing at around 430 whp stock, puts them right around 500HP at the crank on a factory tune....put a mild Cobb off the shelf tune and a catback with a y pipe, will put you close to 500 whp with no problem. People are running this setup with no problem at all. The car does beg to be modded.......Nissan did a great job with this car, but it gets alot of hate, because its a nissan.....not everyones taste, but a great machine
