BTW, this appears to be only an issue on 6 speeds. If you have this ticking sound and have M-DCT, let me know.
I have DCT and have the same problem I think ...

I took my car for 1200 service and they were super busy to update my DCT, and I was told to bring my car back in 2-3 days. I brought it back in 3 days and on the way to the dealer I heard the same noise ... I was able to hear it only driving in 1-2 gear and the low speed with the engine rpm's not higher than 2,000-2,500. I told my SA right away about this noise and he told their service department manager to go on the test drive with me ... He was able to hear it and had no clue what it is ...

I left my car at the dealership for 4 days and they were not able to give me an answer what is going on. This noise was also heard by BMW NA engineer who was there that day. They basically told me that he documented some information and it will take them a 5-10 days to figure out what is going on ... They told me that it is totally safe to drive, but they want me to bring it back next monday ...

After seeing this thread I got a bit relieved that it is not only my car has this issue ...

knifegun - I live in Bay Area and don't mind to meet up with you to compare the sound of the engines. Pm me if you would like to do that ... I have HD camera and we can record the engines sounds side by side.
