speaking of engine oil warming up...
my father's best friend's daughter lives in Fairbanks. When she moved there a few years ago after getting a job at the university, she brought her old BMW 335i with her. She had an engine oil pan heater installed. It plugs into an outdoor outlet in her driveway and keeps the oil around 70, even in the middle of winter. (although I guess that's a necessity in Alaska?)
