I might be inclined to agree with your premise, but also have to acknowledge my own sample biases.

My first BMW was an E30 with cloth interior. It was fun for its time, but objectively crap car by today's standards. My current one is an ///M3.
Worlds apart in technology, quality, luxury, and performance (newer being much MUCH better in all regards). The two cars would (roughly) cost the same $80K new in 2026 USD, net of inflation.

When I take ///M3 in for service at the dealer, I get BMW loaners with mediocre interior materials and build quality: base 3-series and X3's. I find US-built X-series to be particularly disappointing.

But then again, is it remotely fair to compare base 3-series to an ///M3?
Probably not!

I've always found US-built BMW X-series truck to be of questionable quality and assembly.
If you want a proper German engineered car - buy one that was built in Germany!

Yours was Bubba (not Bavarian) Motor Works production sample.
Draw your own conclusions!
