If buying new and driving only 39k before selling, I would worry less. Buying 2-3 years old with 25k and planning to drive to 100k by the time the car is 10 years old is a completely different scenario. I would like her to be covered until the car is 10 years old, but the longest we are finding is 7 years, which is just 2 years past the CPO. $5k for 2 more years is more that I think we should pay and I am considering telling her to self insure.
I actually do not buy extended warranties for my cars unless I am buying CPO to hopefully get a nicer example and it comes with an extra year. I self insure but I am a DIYer who does all the maintenance and repairs on the following: 1999 M3, 2008 535xi, 2012 X3 xdrive2.8i, 2018 M5, 2020 X3 xdrive3.0i, and 2021 Cayenne S.
