DWS is phenomenal 3 season tire for New Hampshire - spring, summer, fall - don't be fooled by the snowflake, very, very light snow and only while the S marking is still present.. certainly not proper winter.. when the S depth / marking is gone then it's just a Dry and Wet (D -W - S) tire. It's extremely capable beyond what most drivers of a 5-series will ever know what to do with. (I'm sure you know you need proper winters for New Hampshire.) I have a set on my summer rims waiting to be swapped with my winter wheels for my SQ5.
Specific to your question, more information would be need in regards to your rim size. Guessing.. Sometimes, the local availability or the XL higher load variation may not be available at the time? That said, the 540 and the dws are a popular combination. There are specific tires for specific car models, but generally higher performance models with specific characteristics and I'm doubtful there is anything for the 540i xd.
