BMW chose plastic because it was the cheapest option that did the job well enough. Bean counter engineering. I would put money on that bet. Engine builders like Carbahn chose to go with solid washers. If they are a problem they’ll be the ones to ask. Also note, out of modern BMW engines, how many use cheap plastic spring caps?
