E90 335d Crank No Start – 2E3D EWS-DDE Sync Nightmare After Engine Rebuild
I’m at the end of the road with this issue and really hoping someone here has seen something similar.
Backstory: I fully rebuilt the engine on my 2011 BMW 335d (M57). Engine is back in, everything is properly connected, grounded, and torqued down. When I go to start it, it cranks but will not start. The fuel pump does not prime, and I’m getting a hard 2E3D code: DDE interface error (EWS-DDE sync failure).
What I’ve done so far:
• verified CAS and DDE are matched, ITN numbers are correct
• starter lock reset and everything through ista,inpa,scanner,tool32
• replaced HPFP to rule it out and sensor (showing 5 bar while cranking only)
• fuel pump still not priming at all (probably due to 2E3D EWS-DDE error)
• confirmed every fuse and relay worked in junction box, ecu, everything
• power and ground confirmed
• confirmed can-L and can-H is in spec via OBD
What makes this weirder:I installed the DDE, CAS, and key from a known running 335d into my car — same symptoms: crank, no start, 2E3D code, no fuel prime, engine malfunction warning with key on.Then I took my original CAS, DDE, and key and put them in the other car — that car started and ran perfectly.
This confirms my modules and key are good. The issue is with my car.
Any input or ideas are appreciated, even long shots. I’ve put hours into this and still can’t get past the EWS/DDE sync issue and no fuel pump prime. Thanks in advance.
