I've been a member for 41 years -- I was Navy enlisted and did not qualify back in the day, but transitioned to officer status in 1982 and finally could get it. I've not had many claims and when I look at what I've paid over the years, it is sobering. I used to be a subscriber to Consumer Reports and noted that USAA was always near the top of the ratings. But you have to qualify and that is something that I could "give" to my adult daughter since they broadened the eligibility.

And I imagine you get the annual member's bonus, which helps ease the sting of premiums somewhat.

The company perennially at the top of CR's ratings is Amica and, sure enough, you don't see Amica ads too often on TV. I agree that the more advertising you see, the less impressed I am with the company -- spending all that money on ads instead of service to customers.
