Sorry, this is just not true. Prohibiting the catalyst monitor from going "READY" is all you have to do. In states that allow one not-ready monitor, you will pass. I have downpipe equipped E90 M3 and a downpipe equipped E90 335xi. Both are self-tuned and in both I disable catalyst monitor readiness in exactly the same way that professional tuners do.
It's not magic. It's not even rocket science
