It does look nice! I seem to recall someone at some point was trying to make a version without the coiled cable. Did that ever materialize?
It's an option but I wouldn't do it. It adds an unnecessary complication/potential failure point. The cord has zero downside other than aesthetics if you don't like the look. You don't need a visible cord if you skip the quick release.

Is there a reason you wouldn't want a cord?
