Wow that sounds like a pain. I did a handful of engine on/off cycles over a couple days. One day went out on some country roads for some spirited driving and cruised home on the freeway back. Total of about 80 miles and I was golden.
Pretty much what I do as well.
I aim for about 100 miles of mixed driving, slow downtown miles (0-30mph), boulevard miles (35-50mph) and freeway miles (55-85mph).
Pretty much this... in addition to the drive cycles you need time and distance to get the rest of the codes to change to emissions readiness.
