The two cars are extremely different and it just depends on what your needs are. The e92 is aging in every department except looks (I still think its one of the best looking cars) The Type R is a great all around vehicle. Surprisingly comfortable and can take it to the track on the weekends and set some ridiculous times. Low end power is much more usable on a daily commute. going back to back you definitely notice the power difference. Sound like based on your needs the Type R would be a perfect car for you. Although you'll miss that V8! I currently own both cars =]
