The rod bearings on my M3 failed on at 102k. It's a very common issue. I've had the car from new, always serviced it on time, never run it low on oil. The car's currently undergoing an expensive engine rebuild.

Mine has scoring on the journals too. If you find a good place that specialises in engines, they can re-bore the block and install sleeves on the damaged cylinders. It's expensive, but I prefer it to installing a used engine. At least you know the history of it.
