It cannot be gear lash. When I put the gear in neutral and then turn off the engine, i can hear the same rattle just as the engine stops rotating. The crankshaft stops rotating very quickly the loss of inertia has the same effect on the clutch springs.
Could it be chatter caused by some broken or fallen hub springs weakening the damping response (underdamped takes longer to settle with multiple oscillations instead of no oscillation for critically damped)
