Getting cams for this car is about as good of a financial decision as using an e92 for a track car
lots of choices make little sense until you factor in the emotional experience of racing and driving a car. A naturally aspirated high revving M v8 pushed to the maximum (that still has an engine that will last 100k miles) is an experience that cant be touched by FI. The cam sound as the revs climb is ridiculous. The s65 with a tune and no cats already just pulls up top and I love that but to have even more of that, with even more sound and dramatics, what is not to love!
For 4800 dollars this is a steal to me. Now adays exterior carbon wings are 4k, exhausts are 9k, bbk kits are 10k. 4800 to open up part of the top end of the motor, add a solid repeatable 15-20whp and get more of an amazing aural experience, to me its the perfect way to spend that money once you have done the other FBO.
The smart decision for any of us would be to get an e36 and go to the track, or Miata...but who wants to do that!!
I bought a spotless and almost new 2013 e92 m3 almost 2 years ago now. Paid about 45k. Was full loaded zcp with 10k miles or so. I only mention that to say that to take it to the next level of being a track weapon is now costing about another 40-50k if you are going to do things right in my book. At the end of the day I am SO much happier with my e92 m3 still looking perfect but underneanth having the top of the end parts and its my custom dream car.
Brakes PFC-nearly 10k front and rear
Monoblock Forged wheels/track tires-5-6k
Coilovers (MCS or equivalent) 3 way and springs-7-8k
Other suspension(Spherical bearings, suspension arms, subframe bushings and other stuff-4-5k with labor and everything
Exterior/aero-2-5k
Interior cage and seats-7-10k
Engine work (definitely more optional)-tune, catless xpipe plus/minus cams-2-10k
All that gets you to about a 40-50k build but with a couple hundred pounds weight loss and assuming you have some decent driving skills, I believe a properly sorted e92 m3 with good parts will give a whooping to most cars out there
