I did mention that there is quite a bit of fuss about it on forums and we agreed that it's more than likely internet hysteria. Not to say there aren't rod bearing issues out there, just that it isn't very common and this particular dealership hasn't seen a single one.
He said that if there are issues, they are likely caused by 15k mile oil change intervals and this would be even more pronounced with people who track their cars. Told me that if I plan on tracking my car, I should be changing the oil a lot more frequently than that (which is obvious to me but there are some pretty dumb people out there).
I understand that we have seen members on this forum have rod bearings issues despite 7.5k mile (or less) oil change intervals, but to me these seem like one off cases rather than what should be considered the norm.
