No need to remove the engine -- that would be way, way too much work. I have done the job twice. You do have to unbolt the front subframe and that leaves the engine unsupported in the front. You could support it with an engine hoist, but the hoist does not go very high if you are using a lift for under car access. If the car is on jackstands and you are doing the job on your back, the hoist would work. Most use a fender/strut tower support bar. Harbor Freight sells them for about $60 on sale. That is what I use.
